AerScout ("AerScout," "we," "us," or "our") is a photography planning application. This policy explains what information the AerScout mobile application and website may process, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
1. Information we process
Information you provide
- Saved photography locations, coordinates, notes, tags, keywords, local tide knowledge, notification rules, and app preferences.
- Camera and lens profile details used by photographic calculators.
- Support communications, including your email address and the contents of your request.
- Prerelease access requests, including your name, email address, and selected mobile platform.
Information collected through app use
- Location data: precise or approximate location, only when you grant device permission or select a point on the map, to provide location-based sun, moon, weather, tide, wave, and mapping features.
- Technical data: app version, device and operating-system information, diagnostics, and crash information when enabled or supplied by platform services.
- Forecast requests: coordinates, dates, and feature parameters needed to retrieve relevant forecast and astronomical data.
2. How we use information
We process information to provide and improve AerScout; calculate and display photographic conditions; save your settings and locations; deliver notifications you request; diagnose errors; secure the service; respond to support requests; and meet legal obligations. Where applicable, our legal bases include performance of a contract, your consent, legitimate interests in operating and improving the service, and compliance with law.
3. Device permissions
AerScout may request location and notification permissions. Location access supports nearby forecasts and planning; notification access supports alerts and timers. You can decline or revoke either permission in your device settings. Some related features will then be unavailable. AerScout does not require access to your photo library or camera unless a feature clearly asks for it at the time of use.
4. Service providers and disclosure
AerScout may send limited request data to infrastructure, email, mapping, weather, marine, tide, notification, diagnostics, and app-distribution providers solely to operate relevant features. These may include MailerSend for prerelease and support email delivery, Google mapping services, Open-Meteo, WorldTides, Apple, and Google. Their handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Storage, security, and retention
Saved locations and preferences may be stored on your device and, if a sync or backup feature is enabled, with the associated platform or service. Support records and operational logs are retained only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, legal, and service-operation purposes. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
6. Your choices and rights
You can manage permissions in device settings, edit or delete saved content in the app, and uninstall AerScout to remove locally stored app data. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information, or object to certain processing. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity.
7. Children
AerScout is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age required in a user's jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.
8. International processing
Information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as AerScout changes. The revised policy will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by another appropriate method.
